Job Opportunity: FPGA Machine Learning Developer at CERN – Edge SpAIce Project
We are seeking an FPGA & Machine Learning Developer to join the Edge SpAIce project, an EU-funded initiative leveraging hls4ml for onboard image processing with ML on FPGAs. This project aims to detect marine plastic pollution from space using Earth Observation satellites equipped with hyperspectral cameras. By implementing real-time image segmentation onboard, the system will enable rapid detection and alerting, minimizing data transmission needs. The successful candidate will focus on developing and optimizing Neural Network inference for NanoXplore FPGAs, a critical component of the system. The role involves FPGA development, benchmarking, and collaboration with international partners in satellite technology, AI, and Earth Observation.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience with FPGA development (HLS, Verilog/VHDL, C++)
- Understanding of Neural Networks for image processing
- Familiarity with hls4ml, NanoXplore FPGAs, and Quantization Aware Training (a plus)
- Knowledge of Earth Observation applications & hyperspectral imaging
- Strong technical communication and teamwork skills
Eligibility:
- Maximum two years of professional experience post-graduation (EE/CS or related field)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (PhD holders not eligible)
- Citizen of a CERN Member/Associate Member State
